A doctor is leaving the GP practice behind as she launches her own beauty business in Maidenhead.
Dr Selena Langdon, of Horsley Road, Maidenhead, has set up Berkshire Aesthetics in Park Street with the aim of offering beauty treatments from a medically-trained professional.
Anti-wrinkle injections, chemical skin peels and fat-freezing are among the procedures that will be available.
Selena currently works as a GP in Stanwell but will be leaving the NHS after more than 10 years of service to concentrate on her new venture.
She told the Advertiser: “I think the thing that is lacking in this field is regulation.
“There’s far too many people offering these treatments without the proper training and I can’t understand how it got to these levels.
“You should see someone who is medically trained for procedures like this.”
The 35-year-old has always been passionate about plastic surgery and has worked alongside some of London’s most well-known cosmetic surgeons during her time in the profession.
She says her new business will be able to offer skin care products which aren’t always available over the counter at high street stores.
“Rather than using your traditional products which you could get in the high street we’ve got a topical skincare range,” Selena said.
“For example, benzoyl pero-xide (BPO) is a really common product that everyone uses to try and improve acne but it tends to dry the skin out.
“Instead of doing that, I will be looking at what’s more suitable to each patient.”
While Berkshire Aesthetics will offer anti-wrinkle treatments, Selena added no procedures will be carried out without a full consultation.
She also said this treatment would not be on offer to people under the age of 21.
“A lot of people will be coming to me with concepts but I’m trying to show there’s a lot of other things you can do,” she added.
“At the end of the day, I don’t see anyone who hasn’t had a full consultation.”
