Kate Hudson slammed for 'insensitive' C-section comment
Actress Kate Hudson has upset fans after suggesting cesarean sections are for lazy mothers in a new magazine interview.
The Almost Famous star is the covergirl of Cosmopolitan magazine’s October issue, and when asked what she considers to be the laziest thing she’s ever done in the publication’s ‘Q&A’ section, the 38-year-old listed, “Have a C-Section!”, as her response.
Kate, a mother-of-two who had a cesarean section operation when her eldest 13-year-old son Ryder was born, stirred up controversy with the comment, and many moms have taken to social media to slam the actress for her “insensitive” remark.
One Twitter user wrote: “Hey #KateHudson. Please tell me which part of major abdominal surgery is ‘Lazy?’ The procedure? The heal time? The 9 months of work prior?”
Other social media critics emphasized the fact that most moms are forced to undergo a cesarean section operation due to birth complications, and the surgery is necessary to save a mother and child’s life in the delivery room.
“How insensitive,” one mother fumed. “Shaming a way that so many women don’t chose (sic) to have their babies but have to! I labored for over 24 hours before it was no longer safe for me and my baby. I think that’s the furthest thing from lazy!”
Another Twitter user added: “As women most of us don’t choose a c section (sic) I know I didn’t, and I have had both and believe me having a c section was one of the hardest things I have ever done I ended up almost dying I was very very ill and it took a long time to recover, some of us are a little to (sic) sensitive…”
However, supporters of the star have also turned out on social media to defend her, insisting she was probably just joking: “I had three c sections in the last 4 years, and I found the comment hilarious. Sounds exactly like something I would have said as a joke.”
Kate has yet to respond to the criticism.
